The Apprenticeship Training Standard (246T) for a "Process Operator - Food Manufacturing" was written in 2007 to address the growing difficulty in finding sufficient workers with the skills to keep Ontario's food and beverage processing industry vigorous. The processing industry in Ontario has stressed the need for trained, skilled workers as technological and industry advancements demand more advanced skills.

Currently the Alliance is working with industry members, the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, local training and adjustment boards as well as colleges on the next step in the process; to have the curriculum written. Meetings are being scheduled throughout the province to obtain industry input and support. To learn more about this initiative and how you can support this Apprenticeship trade, contact, Mr. Luis Garcia, Chair, Institute of Food Processing Technology, lgarcia@conestogac.on.ca of call 519-748-5220 Ext. 2475.
